THE PROGRAMME
Who is eligible for the
IMIM Programme?
European and non-European graduate students with a technical background (Bachelor of Science or Engineering) from anywhere in the world.
Can students who have
already obtained a Masters degree enrol in the Programme?
Yes, students who have successfully
obtained a higher degree can enrol in the Programme.
Can students with a
business educational background apply for the IMIM Programme?
The IMIM Programme will give priority
to
applicants with a technical background (equivalent to a Bachelor of
Science).

ERASMUS MUNDUS SCHOLARSHIPS
Who
can benefit from an
Erasmus Mundus scholarship?
Erasmus Mundus Scholarship Category A:
An Erasmus Mundus scholarship Category A can be allocated to a "Third country student".
"Third-country students" are defined as nationals coming from all countries other than:
- the 27 EU Member states: Germany, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Spain, Finland, France, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal, the UK, Sweden, Cyprus, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia,Bulgaria, Romania;
- the EEA-EFTA states: Island , Liechtenstein and Norway .
In addition, to be eligible for an Erasmus Mundus scholarship Category A, candidates must not be residents of any of the 27 EU Member states and EEA-EFTA states; and have not carried out their main activities (studies, work, etc.) for more than a total of 12 months over the last five years in any of these countries.
Erasmus Mundus Scholarship Category B:
An Erasmus Mundus scholarship Category B can be allocated to any students who do not fulfil the Category A criteria defined above.
Besides, Erasmus Mundus scholarships are also available for academics invited to participate in the teaching and research activities of one of the IMIM institutions.

How can I apply for an
Erasmus Mundus scholarship?
You can
apply for an Erasmus Mundus Scholarship at the same time that you apply
for
admission to the IMIM Programme, by stating on the application
(“9 Financial
Statement”) that you are applying for the Programme through
an Erasmus Mundus
Scholarship.
When will the Erasmus Mundus selection results be released?
• Erasmus Mundus Scholarship Category A:
All the selected applicants should receive at the latest in May 2010 a notification email informing them about their admission in the IMIM program.
• Erasmus Mundus Scholarship Category B:
All the selected applicants should receive at the latest in July 2010 a notification email informing them about their admission in the IMIM program.
For each category of Erasmus Mundus scholarships (A and B), students awarded the scholarship will be included in the main list. Students ranked in the reserve list are admitted to enter the program, but could benefit from an Erasmus Mundus scholarship only in case of withdrawals of the applicants selected in the main list or at a higher rank in the reserve list.
I am on the reserve list, what are my chances to be actually awarded an Erasmus Mundus scholarship?
Students in the reserve list may be awarded an Erasmus Mundus scholarship only in replacement of a student in the main list (upgrades from reserve to main list are notified by e-mail). Actually students who are on the top of the reserve list (rank 1 to 15) have better chance to be upgraded to the main list.
Until when can I wait for a possible upgrade from the reserve list to the main list?
Your scholarship status may be upgraded from reserve to main list at any time until mid September (start of the academic year), or never be. We can not be more accurate about that.
What does Erasmus Mundus scholarship cover?
The Erasmus Mundus scholarship covers tuition fees, accommodation, living costs, books, etc…
Does Erasmus Mundus scholarship cover the plane ticket and the visa cost?
No, the scholarship will be paid by bank transfer monthly once you start the academic year at UPM Madrid.
Apart from Erasmus
Mundus scholarships, are there any other scholarships that cover 100%
of the programme's fees?
At the moment the IMIM Consortium is
not able to offer other scholarships that cover 100% of the programme's
fees.

Is there any other scholarship that I can get together with Erasmus Mundus?
An Erasmus Mundus Scholarship can be combined with any other scholarship from a different source than the EM Programme.
Can
third-country nationals living in Europe apply for Erasmus Mundus
scholarships?
Third
country nationals living in Europe
can apply
for an Erasmus Mundus scholarship as long as they have not been in one
or more of
the 27 EU Member
States, the EEA-EFTA states
and the candidate countries for accession to the EU, longer than 12
months in
total, over the last 5 years.
What is
the amount of Erasmus Mundus scholarships?
For each
student the scholarship amount awarded is 21.000 Euro per academic
year. Conditions
on payments will be established by an agreement that the student will
have to
sign before arrival.
How is
the payment arranged?
The IMIM
Consortium pays the grants to students according to its own payment
arrangements, in a monthly basis, which are communicated to the
grantees in
advance.
Is
the total amount of Erasmus Mundus
scholarship given to the students enough to pay the total tuition and
cover all
living and travelling expenses during the 2 years duration of the
Programme?
Erasmus
Mundus
scholarships allow students to study and live for the whole duration of
the
Programme. It will also depend on the lifestyle adopted by each student.

SCHOLARSHIPS
Who
is granted an IMIM
Scholarship?
IMIM Scholarships are assigned to exceptionally gifted students during the selection procedure. The first set of IMIM grants will be distributed among the applications received by 15th May 2010. Remaining scholarships will be assigned when selection procedure closes.
When
do I know if I will be granted an
IMIM
Scholarship?
Final results
on IMIM tuition waiver will be communicated in July 2010.
ADMISSION
What are the admission
requirements for candidates?
The
admission
requirements are the following:
1. A
bachelor's degree or recognized equivalent from an accredited
institution
(minimum 3 years full time study) in a scientific or technical
discipline.
Supported documents required: Legalised copies of diplomas and transcripst and a translation into English. If legalised copies of diplomas are not available at the time of application, an original statement from your current university about the studies done so far and the studies currently being done must be provided.
2. Recent GMAT or GRE scores (maximum two years old).
3. Documented
evidence of a high proficiency in the English language (verified
by TOEFL,
IELTS
scores or equivalent certificate).
4. Curriculum
Vitae.
5. Two letters
of recommendation signed by an academic referee. In the case of
previous
business experience, a business recommendation letter is strongly
advised.
6. A
motivation letter from the applicant.

How can I apply for the
IMIM Programme and IMIM Scholarships?
At the moment the IMIM Programme have paper based and electronic based application procedures available.

All the application files submitted must be complete. Incomplete applications as well as electronic applications will not be considered.
Special case:
Can I submit my TOEFL or IELTS score report after the application deadline?
The only case for which you are allowed to post your official TOEFL or IELTS score report separately from your application is if the score report is directly send to Universidad Politecnica de Madrid by test centre.
Does IMIM program have a letter of recommendation form?
There is no specific form for the recommendation letters. However they have to be typewritten, be printed on a letterhead, and contain a signature and an official stamp. Recommendations letters sent in sealed envelope are accepted but are not mandatory. You have to send two letters of recommendations with at least one from an academic referee.

Do the copies of my degrees or transcripts need to be certified?
You are no longer requested to have your copies certified. Nevertheless, the certifications are obviously accepted.
In addition, in case of any doubt the IMIM Academic Steering Board reserves the right to check the authenticity of the copies.
When can I apply for the 2010-2012 IMIM Master Course (from September 2010 until July 2012)?
You can apply for the 2010-2012 IMIM Master Course from September 15th 2009.
What is the deadline to apply for the IMIM Master Course with an Erasmus Mundus scholarship?
The application deadlines for the reception of applications for 2010-2012 course are:
- December 13th, 2009 for NON-EU students requesting an Erasmus Mundus Grant
- April 15th, 2010 for EU students requesting an Erasmus Mundus Grant
Please when sending the paper application consider that the carrier could take as long as 10 days to deliver the parcel from some countries.
What documents do I have to submit to apply?
All the documents to be submitted for application must be in English or Spanish (if it is your mother language):
1. Complete Application form in English.
2. A full Curriculum Vitae in English.
3. Copy of your transcripts, with translation in English, for the last 4 years of your higher education (done by your educational institution or by an official institution).
4. Copy of your degrees, with translation in English (done by your educational institution or by an official institution).
5. 2 letters of recommendation in English (at least one from an academic referee).
6. A motivation statement in English to present your career project and motivate your application (2000 words max.).
7. English certificate (i.e. TOEFL, IELTS). Not required if you are a Native English speaker or if you did your studies in English (in that case, you must provide an official statement issued by your university confirming that the medium of instruction was English).
8. Copy of passport information page (should include the passport number, your name, and your photo) or copy of your identity card and a proof of request for a new passport.
9. 2 recent passport photos.
10. Publication list and Patents in English if research experience.
Please follow strictly the list provided; all documents have to be placed according to the order provided in the list. All extra documents (i.e. high school academic records, training certificates) will not be considered and can even lead to the rejection of your application.
Please as much as possible avoid the use of staples, eyelets, paper clips or envelopes.
I am currently finishing my Bachelor studies but I will not get my degree until after the application period ends. May I still apply?
Yes, you can if you expect to graduate before July 31st 2010. In that case, you must submit an official letter signed and sealed from your University stating an expected graduation date. The final admission will be dependent on the achievement of the needed degrees.
I have already applied for another Erasmus Mundus Master course, may I apply for the IMIM as well?
According to the latest EACEA's Call for Proposals, applications by students asking for an Erasmus Mundus scholarship (Category A and B) must be limited to three Erasmus Mundus Masters Courses maximum.
I cannot download the application form, is there another way of getting it?

ENGLISH PROFICIENCY
Applications
without English proficiency will not be processed.
English certificates: what are the minimum scores?
IELTS : 6.5
TOEFL (paper based : 550, computer based : 200, internet based : 80)
Cambridge English Test : B
Warning: the GRE test is considered neither as an English proficiency nor as a plus for your application.
Are Internet Based TOEFL
scores accepted?
IB TOEFL scores are accepted. The
minimum scores required are the equivalent to the ones stated on the
previous question.
I am a native English speaker, do I have to present any language skills proof or certificate?
Native English speakers do not have to send proof of language proficiency.
I am not a native English speaker but I have completed my studies in English language. Do I still have to present a TOEFL or IELTS certificate?
If you have done your studies in English, you do not need to send an English certificate as long as you submit an official statement issued by your University confirming that the medium of instruction was English.
Can I submit my TOEFL score report after the deadline?
As the official TOEFL score report sent by ETS may arrive after the deadline, you must submit the unofficial TOEFL score report given the day of the test.

GMAT
What is the minimum
requirement for a GMAT score?
There is not a minimum score required. The GMAT score is just one piece of data among the many used to evaluate an application. The range of GMAT scores is very broad.
Can I submit my GMAT
score after the deadline?
As the official GMAT score sent by ETS
may
arrive after the deadline, you must submit the unofficial GMAT score
given the day of the test.
Can I apply without
GMAT?
Recent GMAT scores are not compulsory but highly recommended. Preference
will be given to applicants presenting their GMAT scores. In the case you do
not present your GMAT scores your chances to get accepted into the programme
are very small.

ELIGIBILITY
Do you prefer any
specific educational background to apply for the IMIM Programme?
The IMIM Programme is primarily
oriented to
graduate students with a technical or scientific background. Other
academic backgrounds can also be considered.
Is there an age limit?
There is no age limit, but in general
Master
courses are a qualification which you would expect to take early on in
your career after having some working experience.

SELECTION
What are the selection
dates?
Applications will be processed after deadlines. The selection procedure lasts approximately one month.
How many people do you
admit? How many from my country? How many from my industry?
The
specific
number of admits each year from different areas will vary and will also
depend
on the applicant pool at the time. The one constant is that it will
always be
based on those who will contribute to stimulating, diverse
educational
experience. While we consider gender, ethnicity, nationality, and
personal,
professional, and academic experiences, among other aspects, we
ultimately
admit individuals and not categories of people.
When will I know the
results?
IMIM's Coordinating Institution will
communicate the selection results when finishing the selection
procedure. Unofficial results will be communicated in March and
official results in June.

STUDENT VISA
When do I start the
procedure to get a student visa?
Once you have been officially admitted
in the Programme and received the required documents to apply for the
student visa.
Would I be able to work
with a student visa?
You are able to work part-time with a
student visa.
Can I do the master and
work at the same time?
As the IMIM Programme is a full time
programme, we do not advise you to study and work at the same time.

TUITION FEES
What is the amount of the tuition fees to participate in the IMIM Masters course?
For the academic period 2010–2012, the tuition for the European and NON-European without Erasmus Mundus scholarship joint Masters IMIM is 20,000 €.
European students can be offered a reduction of this amount, that will be decided by the IMIM Academic Steering Board during the application assessment.
How will the tuition fees payment be made?
Students who have a scholarship from the European Commission under the Erasmus Mundus programme must pay the tuition by authorising the consortium coordinator institute (Universidad Politecnica de Madrid) to debit the tuition from the scholarship. The scholarship instalment payment schedule will be determined based on the tuition fees debited at the beginning of the programme.
Students who are not granted an Erasmus Mundus scholarship are required to pay the tuition fees, the payment schedule of the 20.000 EUR is as follows:
500 Euros upon acceptance to the Programme
5.000 Euros before 15th September 2009
5.000 Euros before 30th January 2010
5.000 Euros before 30th June 2010
4.500 Euros before 30th January 2011
The Consortium cannot be held liable for any loss of funds or failure in the transfer of funds as a result of the transaction.
