Structure of the Programme
|
|
Students will spend each of
the first three semesters at one of the participating institutions:
starting in Madrid and subsequently continuing with the second semester
in Como-Milan and the third in Stockholm. The fourth and final semester
comprises, industry-related master thesis in virtually any
country in Europe. A broad
foundation, comprising introductions to organizational behaviour,
financial and managerial accounting, corporate finance and the function
of capital markets, marketing, strategy and economics, will be provided
during the first semester.
Building on this, the second semester further develops students'
proficiency in operations management, quality management and supply
chain management approaches and techniques. Thus gradually
strengthening the link between general managerial work and the
challenges emerging in modern manufacturing and service operations.
The third semester then comprises courses aimed at deepening some of
the topics introduced during the first semester as well as developing a
more integrated view of how these relate to one another. This includes
advanced courses in management accounting and marketing and application
of previously taught topics in two integrative, thematic courses on
project management and entrepreneurship. An introductory methodology
course will also be given in preparation for the final semester thesis
project.
All teaching activities are in English. A significant amount of these
take an interactive approach, through extensive use of group-based
work, case studies and seminars, to stimulate dialogue between and
learning from the diverse experiences of students and teachers. |

The Master Thesis is completely integrated in
the educational programme as an opportunity for the student to apply what
he/she has learned during the previous semesters, with a multi functional and
integrative approach. The Master Thesis is a broad project that the IMIM
consortium organises in collaboration with universities, industrial and service
companies, and other organisations. It is defined by a clear set of objectives,
by expected outcome and by main milestones. An expert IMIM tutor supervises the
student's activities mentoring and directing the development of the project.
The student conducts an autonomous work with defined responsibilities, toward
the achievement of the stated objectives, considering a wide range of
managerial aspects and adopting different tools. The Master Thesis is a
wonderful opportunity to blend the knowledge of different subjects and take an
integrated and practical view of the issues addressed during classes.
Some of the
companies hosting IMIM students for their master thesis are the following:
-
ATLAS COPCO
-
CRAMO

The official language of the Master is
English: all academic activities of the programme (i.e., the courses and the
supporting documentation such as lecture notes and slides; exams) are conducted in English.
No course of English (as a second language) is provided during the two years, hence the ability to
attend courses in English is a prerequisite. An English certificate (TOEFL, etc.) is mandatory
(see admission criteria).
During their resident periods at the various universities, students
will have the opportunity to attend courses of local language to widen
their language skills and they
will also have a chance to take part in other social, sport and

Graduates will be well-suited for a
range of managerial careers in areas such as production, logistics,
marketing, purchasing and management control. Large consulting firms
provide an alternative career path. In addition, the strongly
research-based profile of the programme opens opportunities for further
studies towards the PhD level.
The international education of IMIM students is a valuable asset to be
spent in Global companies and makes it easier for students to find a
job in one of the 25 EU Member Countries, or outside Europe in
companies anyhow linked with Europe. However, for non-EU students some
additional requirements may be needed and limitations to the possibility to
work in Europe may exist depending on the case. Additional information about employment in
Europe for non-EU students can be found in the website of foreign
affairs of each European country, and local embassies.
Alumni IMIM
are currently developing their career in different functional roles, different
industries and different geographical locations.
